Since starting his Carpentry apprenticeship in Brisbane, CMT Constructions FNQ, Managing Director, Cameron Twittey has had a passion for building.
During his apprenticeship, Cameron gained experience in multiple aspects of the trade. He was extremely fortunate to not be limited to general commercial and new block home builds.
Upon the successful completion of his apprenticeship in 2003, Cameron continued to work in the building and construction industry as a subcontractor for various Brisbane builders expanding his knowledge and experience in the industry.

Working with old traditional Queensland / timber homes became Cameron’s passion. This led to a decision in 2004 to relocate to his wife, CMT’s Office Manager / Director Briony Twittey’s hometown of Cairns. Briony is a born and bred 5th generation local who along with raising three beautiful girls also oversees all of the “off site” aspects of CMT Constructions FNQ.
Upon arrival in Cairns, Cameron immediately started working with some of the best local builders. He quickly established a rapport with all the local Suppliers and other Contractors in the area. In 2007 he launched his own sole trader business in Cairns, predominantly building customised decks and thatched gazebos. During this time Cameron and Briony purchased and renovated a 1950’s Queenslander. This was a very challenging time for all, however upon seeing the complete transformation of this house, Cameron was inspired and motivated to obtain his Builders License so he could share his knowledge and experience and help others to realise their dreams.
We are proud sponsors and supporters of many local sporting clubs, venues, local businesses, and schools. We regularly attend trade shows, information nights and seminars keeping us up to date in the building industry and all changes to building codes and regulations.
Cameron encourages contact from new suppliers and contractors, he is always willing to sit down and talk about their business and what they offer.
CMT Constructions FNQ is committed to training and nurturing future carpenters and builders and shows this by being actively involved in local School Work Experience Programs, school-based apprenticeships, and continuous support for all of our apprentices upon qualification.
Even assisting with applications for their Builders License. With a current 100% success rate (retention / completion) for apprentices (onto Number 4) – we were extremely honoured to be in the Top 5 for the 2021 Queensland Training Awards – Small Employer of the Year.
CMT Constructions is also an annual member of Master Builders Queensland.
